Poetry East #53: Love Poems

When love and skill work together,
expect a masterpiece

—John Ruskin

for Katie Coogan-Raley

This is the story of ISaac, son of Abraham.
Isaac was forty years old when he took to wife
Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramea…

—Genesis 25:19

Perhaps it not so much
that we are loved,
as that we can love,

perhaps that is the treasure…
to love even our own pain
and, after all that time,

to make something from it,

so that it too might blossom,
might illumine the circle
in which one is called to dance.

Imagine Isaac, after the ram,
learning as he did,
to love all over again.

— Michael S. Glasner
